I discovered recently that there are plans to change the name of Brixton to East Clapham.
I usually would probably not pay attention to a name change but when an area is so significantly rich in history I really feel I have to voice and opinion. You may choose not to agree but I feel I have a valid point.
The meaning behind the name
Research shows The name Brixton said to originate from Brixistane, meaning the stone of Brixik, a Saxon lord. Brixi is believed that he erected a boundary stone to mark the meeting place of the ancient hundred court of Surrey. Back then Brixton marks the rise from the marshes of North Lambeth up to the hills of Upper Norwood and Herne Hill.
